Occupational therapists assess an individual’s ability to safely access, exit and move around their home environment, while reducing risks and providing recommendations for modifications that promote safety and independence in the home.
An accessible home allows individuals to complete the occupations they want, need and have to do by removing environmental barriers and creating solutions that allow individuals to perform to their abilities.
Examples of home accessibility and modifications may include:
- Ramp, stair rails, or stair lift recommendations
- Assistive devices recommendation
- Layout, height and access modifications
